Massage Therapy and Stress

Massage Therapy and Stress

“Stress” is a word we are hearing more and more frequently, and it seems there are more factors in our lives that can give us stress. Work, financial, family, lack of time to exercise, and even the weather! But is stress actually bad for you?

Recent studies show that stress can create or exacerbate many physical and emotional conditions such as chronic fatigue, headaches, neck pain, back pain, high blood pressure, diabetes, skin conditions, anxiety and depression.

A recent survey performed by the Australian Psychological Society found 7 out of 10 Australians reported that stress has an impact on their physical health. This can present as increased muscle tension particularly in the neck and shoulder muscles, as well as postural abnormalities.

Massage Therapy has been proven to play an important role in stress management. Massage works by:

  • Improving circulation to the muscles,
  • Relieving muscle tension and pain
  • Promoting a feeling of wellbeing.

Massage will give your body more energy and reduces your chance of injury. Studies have shown that directly post-massage, clients have reduced levels of the stress hormone cortisol, and increased levels of endorphins - the “feel-good” hormone.

Your Health Domain Massage Therapists are here to help you. We have experienced therapists who specialise in a variety of massage techniques including Remedial, Sports, Pregnancy, and Trigger Point therapy. We also offer Dry Needling which is the Western version of Acupuncture.

Our Massage Therapists recommend an hour session when you book in with us. This allows your therapist to work thoroughly on your chosen area and for you to gain maximum benefit from your session.
