Do I need a Referral?

Private Health Insurance Claims

No, generally speaking, at Your Health Domain Sydney CBD (Pitt and King St Practices) our Physiotherapists, Massage Therapists and Pilates instructors are “first contact” practitioners and therefore a referral is not required for clients to claim on their private health fund.

However, if your private health insurer is based overseas (i.e. you are travelling to Australia from overseas and require treatment whilst on holiday or working abroad) please check with your health insurer as many international insurance companies do require you to obtain a doctors referral for physiotherapy or massage therapy services prior to attending for treatment.

Third Party and Compensation Schemes

Yes - if you are seeking treatment which is to be paid by a third party or a compensation scheme i.e. workers compensation, CTP (motor vehicle accident), DVA or Medicare, a referral is required from your doctor prior to seeking treatment. Relevant paperwork will need to be completed by your doctor to accompany your claim e.g. Workers compensation – Work Cover certificate, Medicare (EPC) – Allied Health Referral form.

If you do have a referral from your GP or Specialist please bring it along to your initial appointment. If you do not have a GP and require one, please contact our clinics for a list of local GPs.

If in doubt, call us on 9251 5111 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we are happy to discuss your individual needs with you prior to attending for treatment.
